Flights

Flying into Mexico City International Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez, airport code: MEX) is the most straightforward and fastest route to Mexico City. Many major airlines offer direct flights from major US cities to MEX. The airport is approximately a 45-minute drive to most hotels, though this can vary based on traffic. For convenient transportation from the airport, Uber is a popular choice, typically costing around 30 USD.

Passport and Visa Requirements

U.S. citizens traveling to Mexico need a valid U.S. passport book or card. Mexico does not require the six-month validity period in your passport for entry.

Individuals exempt from the visa requirement include:

a) Permanent residents of Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, any country within the Schengen Area, or the member countries of the Pacific Alliance.

b) Individuals holding a valid, current visa for Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or any country within the Schengen Area.

Visa requirements for travelers from other countries can be found here

Transportation

Uber is our recommended mode of transportation during your stay for other activities or if you stay elsewhere. Make sure to download the app before you arrive. Uber rides are readily available, reliable, cost effective, and safer than taxis.

Altitude

Please remember that Mexico City has a very high altitude, it is 7,200 feet above sea level. This could cause dizziness or a slight headache when you first arrive. The climate is also extremely dry, so please remember to stay well-hydrated.

Money

We recommend letting your bank know that you will be traveling to Mexico City, this should limit the security alerts on your credit cards. Most sit-down restaurants accept credit cards as well as contactless payment. There are many places to change money in the city but there are also money changing stations in the airport and you can withdraw MXN pesos at an ATM.

Mexico uses the Peso, which can be exchanged at the airport or withdrawn from ATMs using your debit card. Carry some cash ($500-$1,000 MXN, approximately $25-50 USD) for local markets, street vendors, or artisanal markets. The exchange rate at the moment is 1 USD == 17 Pesos.

Phone

Checking into your phone plans before traveling to Mexico City is also a good idea. There are many places with internet, but you will most likely want to have it available on your cell phone while navigating the city.

Weather

In April, the weather in Mexico City is crisp and sunny, but can get chilly at night. Packing layers is a great idea.
Average daytime temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F).April is considered a dry month, but there might be occasional light showers.

Safety

Mexico City, especially in neighborhoods like Condesa, Roma, Juarez, and Polanco, is generally safe. However, exercise caution and avoid areas that don't feel secure.

What to Pack

Event attire ranges from very casual to formal. Daytime attire is generally casual, keeping in mind the chilly nights. Don't forget sunscreen due to the altitude.
Given the city's elevation, it tends to be cooler than expected. We recommend bringing a light jacket or shawl for the evenings
